Technology has grown over the years. Many educators are including technology through their daily teaching. Students are also using technology daily outside of school. So what can students do to be safe using their email and internet? How can parents and educators enforce the safety of the students while on technology?
Ten Rules for Internet Safety for Students
1. Talk with your guardians- Keep your guardians up to date on what you are doing online. If you are ever in doubt about something talk with them about the problem.
2. Check Laws- Many websites have age limits to sign up. Never lie about your age and always check the age recommendations. Another thing to remember is there are a lot of photos with copyrights. Make sure to check the image before you use it.
3. Privacy- Never share your information with anybody online. This includes your address, phone number, passwords, or your plans for the day.
4. Friends-Don't accept or add anybody on social media who you do not know in real life.
5. Reputation- This is a problem that many people make. They post to much information and too much personal business on social media. Do not share your personal things that could one day come back and affect you when you are looking to go to college or start your career.
6. Unplug- Still be a kid! Limit your screen time to a miniman!
7. Question- Question anything you are not sure on. It is never too safe to double check.
8. Passwords and usernames- Create passwords and usernames that only tou would know. Never share your passwords or information.
9. Cyberbullying- Bullying doesn't just take place in real life it can happen behind a screen as well. Never bully anyone online and if it is happening to you tell an adult immediately.
10. Manners- Treat everyone with kindness and respect. Even though you are online manners still make such a big difference.
